I build the platforms other engineers build on. I’ve spent 15 years on the web, nearly seven of them at Bayer, where I’ve led four teams, 28 engineers in all, behind its Crop Science customer sites. About 6M visits a year land on things I helped shape. I care deeply about the people I work with, and I try to learn and teach as much as I can.
Experience
Bayer
Staff Software Engineer, Squad Lead
2023 – now- Led the squads behind the Crop Science websites for the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, plus Ruveon, and now lead the experience of the Sales apps.
- Proposed the web platform where a new market is a configuration, and wrote its core. The Canada site took 8 engineers a year; New Zealand took 3 weeks, Australia and Ruveon run on it, and its contract carries the Sales apps in 5 countries.
- Built an agent that lets business stakeholders stand up a market’s website from a chat, describing the market and picking its tools. The New Zealand site started this way, saving about $200K in agency builds.
- Proposed and shipped an agent-first design system that keeps a brand consistent across web and mobile, built on shadcn with a locked upstream sync so nobody has to staff it. Official for the Customer Experience Platform within a month; 7 teams and 60 engineers build on it so far.
- Built an operating system of project context, decision records and about 30 skills that agents and people both run, so coding agents build the way our teams build.
- After nine hours of workarounds across three regions, traced a global product-page outage to an unlocked transitive dependency in about an hour, and coordinated the fix.
- Co-designed the take-home exercise used to screen vendor engineers and interviewed more than 50 candidates.
Senior Software Developer
2019 – 2023- Unblocked a stalled debate by prototyping a headless AEM architecture on Next.js and an Nx monorepo in a week, then built its first screens, navigation and page templates. Crop Science websites in more than 20 countries still run on it.
- Cut p75 Largest Contentful Paint on the Brazil, Argentina and US sites from about 6s to 3s with edge rendering, image caching and smaller JavaScript bundles, measured by real-user monitoring.
- Designed and built a reusable kit that keeps marketing’s lead forms inside our sites, so visitors never leave for a vendor page. Since extended by 32 engineers.
